The Southern Expressway

Fast, Safe and Easy Road to the South

After years of construction, it has finally becoming reality: The expressway from Colombo to Matara - also known as the “Southern Expressway” - was completed on 27 November 2011. This will no doubt bring a considerable relief for all travellers to the South of the island. Trips from the Ayurveda Paragon to the airport and vice versa are now reduced to about 2.5 hours and offer a much more comfortable ride. By taking this new road, guests can also discover Sri Lanka from a very different perspective, as the highway runs much further inland, away from the coastal road, through rural areas, past villages, rice fields and the original, untouched Sri Lanka.
